Intrastat

Intrastat is a system for collecting data on Lithuania’s trade with European Union countries. Its purpose is to provide information on the flow of goods between Lithuania and other European Union countries. Intrastat data is a comprehensive source of information for planning production, researching the market, forecasting and analyzing the development of the Lithuanian economy. Its data is useful for:

• state institutions;
• private companies and organizations;
• individuals.

How does Intrastat reporting work?

First, the thresholds for submitting Intrastat import and export reports are set: what is the value of goods imported and exported from European Union countries in the previous calendar year. These thresholds are calculated for each calendar year, and the Lithuanian Statistics Department publishes them yearly. In Lithuania, registered persons are considered VAT payers if the total value of imports and/or exports for the current year has exceeded the established Intrastat import and/or export reporting thresholds since the beginning of the year. This is calculated starting from the month in which the limit was exceeded and running until the end of the calendar year. Intrastat reports are filed electronically (via the internet) by accessing the Intrastat Data Acquisition and Processing System (IDAIS).
